About the Centre

The Infonet Centre stands as the technical backbone of the University of Rajasthan, overseeing all activities related to the Infonet project. Responsible for the management of Campus wide area Network, Wifi Network, website maintenance, mail servers, result servers, and research servers, the Centre plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless access to digital resources and information dissemination. Committed to advancing the university's technological infrastructure, the Centre promotes the development and utilization of open-source software and leverages cutting-edge platforms like the Linux-Apache-Mysql/Perl/PH P (LAMP) platform to drive innovation and efficiency. Furthermore, the Infonet Centre collaborates closely with two critical networking infrastructures: the Campus Wide Area Network (CWAN) and the National Knowledge Network (NKN). The CWAN, named RUN (Rajasthan University Network), is based on Gigabit Ethernet Technology with Optical Fiber Backbone. It provides high-speed connectivity across the university campus, facilitating efficient communication and collaboration among students, faculty, and researchers. Managed switches ensure seamless connectivity to each room in campus buildings, enhancing accessibility and control over network resources. Additionally, the University of Rajasthan is part of the National Knowledge Network (NKN), a nationwide initiative designed to provide ultra-high-speed internet connectivity to educational and research institutions across India. With speeds of 1 Gbps or higher, the NKN seamlessly integrates participating institutions, including prestigious universities and research centers, into a robust network infrastructure. The Infonet Centre ensures compliance with NKN's operational and security policies, harnessing its advanced capabilities to support higher knowledge, advanced studies, research development, and other academic endeavors. Through its collaboration with CWAN and NKN, the Infonet Centre reinforces its commitment to leveraging cutting-edge networking technologies for the benefit of the university community and beyond.

Infrastructural Facility

The Infonet Center at the University of Rajasthan boasts a robust infrastructure designed to meet the evolving technological needs of the academic community. With the acquisition of a Blade Server and SAN solution, the center addresses the escalating demand for greater data center capacity in education. Blade servers, renowned for their compact form factor and enhanced computing power, are deployed to efficiently handle compute-intensive tasks associated with internet media, online learning, and enterprise resource planning (ERR) software solutions. Additionally, the Infonet Center leverages SAN technology to consolidate backup and recovery processes, streamlining operations and enhancing data resilience. This approach not only optimizes resource utilization but also simplifies backup management, mitigating overhead costs and complexities associated with disparate backup solutions. Furthermore, the Infonet Center is equipped with state-of-the-art networking infrastructure, including the Rajasthan University Network (RUN) and connectivity to the National Knowledge Network (NKN). RUN, based on Gigabit Ethernet Technology with Optical Fiber Backbone, ensures seamless connectivity across the university campus, while NKN provides ultra-high¬speed internet bandwidth and IP space, facilitating advanced studies, research development, and regular academic activities. In addition to its networking capabilities, the Infonet Center houses modern facilities to support academic and administrative functions. Last year, under the RUSA 1.0 project, a new space was constructed on the first floor, paving the way for the development of video conferencing and e-lecture development facilities. The center also features amenities such as safe drinking water, washrooms, and a ramp for differently-abled persons, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility. Moreover, the Infonet Center is well-equipped with essential hardware resources, including laptops, desktops, printers, Xerox machines, servers, scanners, UPS systems, generators, and projectors. These resources enable the center to deliver a wide range of digital services and support academic endeavors effectively. Overall, the Infonet Center's infrastructure reflects a commitment to innovation, reliability, and accessibility, positioning it as a cornerstone of technological advancement and academic excellence at the University of Rajasthan.

Other Highlights and Achievements

The transition to an online admission process across various academic levels has streamlined the application process for prospective students, enhancing accessibility and convenience. Through an in-house developed application, students can easily apply for admission to different programs, reducing paperwork and administrative burdens. The previous academic session witnessed the launch of several new portals aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and student services. These include a new portal for Ph.D. Entrance tests, Employee House Allotment, and a Student Grievance Redressal Portal. These portals provide centralized platforms for various administrative processes, improving accessibility and accountability. The Infonet Centre introduced a dedicated mail service for faculty and research scholars, catering to the specific communication needs of this academic community. This initiative ensures effective communication and collaboration among research students, faculty, and administrators. The university campus is equipped with WiFi services, providing students and faculty with seamless connectivity across various buildings.
